The ancient Vedic literature by sages has clearly laid out instructions to maintain health as well as fighting illness through therapies, diet control and physical exercise. The aim of this system is to prevent illness, heal the sick and preserve life. This can be summed up as follows:

"Swasthyas swasthya rakshanam "        to protect health and prolong life

"Aturasya vikar prashamanamcha"       to eliminate diseases and dysfunctions of the body

Marma

The Marmas (vital points) are a very important part of Ayurveda anatomy and surgery. There are 107 Marma points throughout the body. Each point has it’s own intelligence and consciousness, which co-ordinate with the mind and body. Marma Chikitsa is the ancient unique method of healing related to Ayurveda and Kalarippayattu. This ancient form of treatment dating back to between 1500 — 1200 BC involves using the fingers to stimulate the Marma points thereby promoting physical and mental rehabilitation.
